Profile

Dr. Stephen Zhou (Zhou Gaoguang) is Associate Professor of Accounting, doctoral super­visor and Associate Director of the MBA Programme at the School of Business, Hong Kong Baptist University, and a Certified Management Accountant. He gradu­ated from Jinan University with a Bachelor of Management in 2003 and went on to earn a Master's degree in Accounting (2006) and a Ph.D. (2012) from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he also completed postdoc­toral research in 2013. At HKBU he teaches manage­ment account­ing and corpor­ate governance and ethics.

His research spans audit­ing, culture and corpor­ate finance, corpor­ate social respons­ib­il­ity and corpor­ate governance, with more than thirty papers in journ­als includ­ing the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Management Science, the Journal of International Business Studies, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory and the Journal of Corporate Finance. In 2019 he co-authored Business Sustainability in Asia: Compliance, Performance, and Integrated Reporting and Assurance (Wiley), the first English-language mono­graph on corpor­ate sustain­ab­il­ity in Asia. He is Associate Editor of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting & Economics and serves on the edit­or­ial board of the Journal of Business Research for corpor­ate social respons­ib­il­ity. A frequent speaker on corpor­ate social respons­ib­il­ity, green finance and urban sustain­ab­il­ity, he took part in IHCDC's Greater Bay Area symposium at Songshan Lake, Dongguan, as an urban sustain­ab­il­ity expert.
